General Guidelines
Youth of the Year/Month:
-
Must live on
the Isle of Palms or Sullivan’s Island or be a descendant of the past
or present member of the Isle of Palms Exchange Club.
-
Must
demonstrate excellence in leadership, community service and academics.
-
Must be
hard-working, involved in the community and school activities.
-
Must
demonstrate good sportsmanship, good citizenship, have good attendance
in school.
-
Write an Essay
on a topic given in advance.
-
Send a resume
of their activities during high school.
-
Write a short
essay on their Goals and Aspirations for the future.
-
Fill out the
application that will be given to the applicant and return by
deadline.
Meeks/Sottile
Scholarship:
-
Must live on

Students who receive the Youth of the Month/Year award will:

Be honored
along with their parents and siblings at a monthly IOP Exchange Club
meeting.

Receive a
monetary award along with a plaque for their accomplishments.

The Youth of
the Year will be nominated to the South Carolina District Exchange
Club for their Youth of the Year competition and if they win they will
be nominated to the National Exchange Club’s Youth of the Year
competition. In 2007, SC had a National Winner who received $10,000
towards her college education. In 2008, the IOP Exchange Club had a
state winner who received $2000 towards her college education.
Students who win the Meeks/Sottile Scholarship award will:

Be honored
along with their parents and siblings at a monthly IOP Exchange Club
meeting

Receive a
monetary award which will be determined after our annual Oyster Roast
in Jan. All proceeds from the oyster roast go to our scholarship
winners. In 2008 we gave 4 - $2000 scholarships, 1 - $1500
scholarships, and several smaller scholarships
