2011 YOUTH OF THE MONTH

2011 YOUTH OF THE MONTH

Annually, the Isle of Palms Exchange Club recognizes outstanding high school seniors and college students, who live on the Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, or in Mt. Pleasant.  Applicants must demonstrate good academics, leadership, and be actively involved in school activities and community service.  Also each student submits an essay, selected by the President of the National Exchange Club.  The essay this year is entitled “Shining the Light on Volunteerism”.  Several “Youth of the Month” and their parents were recognized at the Exchange dinner meeting on January 27.  Winners are from (1) Academic Magnet HIgh School – Shannon McGue , (2) Ashley Hall – Chloe Plunkett,  (3) Bishop England – Benjamin Wilkin,  (4) Wando High School – Elliott Condon, Sam Evans, Carter Martens, Lesley Nelson, and Evan Stafford.  Each student received a “Youth of the Month”  certificate and $100.
In the spring, the IOP Exchange Club will choose the “Youth of the Year”, the Meeks/Sotille Scholarship winner and an ACE (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence) Award winner. Each student will receive up to a $2,000 scholarship toward their college tuition.
The IOP Exchange Club Scholarship program is funded by the Exchange oyster roast, held annually in January
